Welcome to The World: Olivia Grace Hoffson, born September 5, 2009. The parents of Olivia Grace are Brian and Jessica Hoffson, grandmother is Susie Hoffson of Lawrenceville and Betty Corbin of Lawrenceville is Olivia’s great grandmother. One of Olivia’s ancestors was Sol Corbin who once owned much of the land now occupied by the Rhodes Jordan Park in Lawrenceville.

Shaina Mussman, daughter of Steve and Marcia Cain Mussman left October 14, 2009 to enter AmeriCorps service. She went to Sacramento, California for five weeks before taking an assignment in the Pacific Region of the United States.

Did you know that Brownie Wise, the lady who created Tupperware, was born in Buford, Georgia in 1913. Brownie was a plumber’s daughter and she certainly made her mark on the national culture.

The Lawrenceville Masonic Lodge No. 131 F & AM received Lodge of the Year award presented by the Grand Master Edward Jennings in Gainesville on September 16, 2009 at the District Masonic Association meeting. Past Master Gene Lowry of the Lawrenceville Lodge accepted the award on behalf of Worthy Master Ken Purl.

The eight story addition to Gwinnett Medical Center was dedicated on September 30, 2009 and it is beautiful. The cafeteria is great; the chapel, rooms and gift shop are great.

Those with ties to Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in the Five Forks community are asked to bring lunch and gather at the church on November 7 for a cemetery clean up time. Rain date will be November 14.

Christmas trees all over Gwinnett will light up late in November. The one on the lawn of the Historic Courthouse in Lawrenceville will shine on Thanksgiving evening.

PRUITT FAMILY REUNION
Members of the family of Mary and Isaac Newton Pruitt met at the Bogan Park Senior Center in Buford for a reunion and covered dish dinner on Sunday October 4, 2009. The feast for the family featured some amazing dishes prepared by family members: Ann Jones brought carrot salad; Janet Etheridge prepared barbeque; red velvet cake from the kitchen of Perry Pealock and a giant banana pudding by Becky Weeks. The banana pudding is a traditional family dish that was began when the late Mildred Pruitt Beard began bringing them to family gatherings many years ago. Other delicious dishes included turnip greens, Harvard bread and spinach dip and a carved pumpkin with beef stew inside. There were too many good dishes to name them all. The invitations to the reunion were sent by Perry Pealock and Carl Pruitt. The youngest family member in attendance was Thomas Grey Lingerfelt, the seven weeks old son of Tommy and Sara Weeks Lingerfelt, grandson of Becky Beard Weeks and great grandson of the late Mildred Pruitt Beard. The oldest family member in attendance was Hazel Pruitt Carroll from Lawrenceville and the daughter of the late Carl and Pearl Pruitt.
Mary and Isaac Newton Pruitt were parents of seven sons and one daughter; fourteen members of the extended family of the Pruitts were casualties of the tornado that demolished parts of Gainesville, Georgia in 1936.

PEEVY FAMILY REUNION
Good food was the order of the day on Sunday October 18, 2009 when descendants of Maggie Burkhart Peevy and John Richard Peevy gathered for the 90th family reunion. Some great dishes were red velvet cake, Kentucky Derby Pie made by Beverly Stephens, Apple Cake baked by Lynn Brown Long and stew made by Dixie Peevy Johnson, there were lots of outstanding dishes on the long table at Friendship Primitive Baptist church in Five Forks. Those who signed the register were Larry and Frankie Peevy, Brad Norton, Bill and Lynn Long, Delores Holley, Anthony and Pam Pealock Taylor, Hazel Carroll, Perry Pealock, Carl Pruitt, Rubye Cates, Tim and Jennifer Norton, Dixie Peevy Johnson, Betty Pruitt, Richard, Amy Lou and Rachel Joy Peevy, John D. and Beverly Stephens, Mary and Dean Long.
Before the meal Rubye Moore Cates gave a talk on Primitive Baptist beliefs and methods of worship; she also named members of her family who are buried in the Friendship Church Cemetery. The person who has attended most of the 90 reunions is Hazel Carroll who was present at the 90th reunion. Some members of the family told special family memories. Those who have died during 2008/09—Rex Griffeth, John Maurice Frazier and Merrill Ethridge. A special collection was taken to support the church building.
Peevy relatives meet for lunch on the first Wednesday of each month.
