Ice, Fire, and Blood”, a new, historical novel about the Korean War, relates actual experiences of men that fought there. It features a man from Pinckneyville, in Gwinnett County, as a vehicle for the story. The novel deals with the critical period from late November 1950 until early spring 1951, when Chinese armies invaded North Korea and inflicted devastating loses on U.S. and U.N. forces and the subsequent turn around, early in 1951, after Gen. Cardiologist promotes heart health among kindergarteners

Gwinnett Medical Center affiliated cardiologist, Marc Unterman, MD, recently visited Sharon Elementary in Loganville to recognize heart health month. Dr. Unterman, of The Cardiovascular Group, used the acronym H.E.A.R.T (Happy, Exercise, Apple, Rest, and Teeth) as a helpful reminder for children and their families. Dr.Unterman, and kindergarteners Audrey Stephens and Caden Chriswell are pictured here wearing wrist bands with a heart healthy message.

Local funeral professional mentors young funeral professionals at national program

Valerie J. Wages, CFSP, Co-Owner of Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, LLC, in Lawrenceville and Snellville, Georgia, was one of three leading funeral service professionals who served as a mentor for the National Funeral Directors Association’s (NFDA) Meet the Mentors Program. Meet the Mentors, which took place on March 26-27, 2012 at the Emory University Conference Center, Atlanta, Georgia, brought young funeral professionals together to learn from “three of the country’s leading funeral service professionals” to be able to network with like-minded peers with years of experience in the profession. celebrates 30th anniversary

The year 2012 marks the thirtieth anniversary of Philadelphia Winn Chapter NSDAR, Lawrenceville, Georgia. On April 19, 1982, organizing members applied to the national society for a charter. They named their new chapter Philadelphia Winn after the daughter of Elisha Winn and Judith Cochran. Active in early Gwinnett County planning, Elisha generously donated more than two hundred acres on which to build Lawrenceville and named the town, along with its four main streets. More...
