New London Theatre holds auditions for “One Act Festival”
(New Director Showcase)
April 21 and 22 6:30 – 8:30 pm

New London Theatre
will hold auditions April 21 and 22 for numerous roles in their upcoming One Act Showcase.  They will be casting roles in 9 different One Act Plays to be performed over the nights of May 30, 31, June 1, 6, 8, 13, 14, and 15th.

Plays include:

Rapunzel (Directed by Joan Apperson)
A childhood favorite is a mix of the magical and the ordinary. When the doll maker is forced to make a deal with the evil, hateful witch, he has no choice other than to promise her his first born daughter.  Rapunzel is then raised in the witch's tower to become a witch herself someday. However, Rapunzel is kind and beautiful and does not want any part of learning the witch's mean and nasty spells.  It seems like she will be trapped there forever, until one day...

The Storm (Directed by Tony Webb)
Four years earlier in a blinding snow storm, Jeff's car veers off the road and hits an on coming car.  The woman driving the car was killed along with her young daughter.  Jeff, unable to live with himself, has been on the run with his wife, Mary, since this tragic accident took place.  Presently, both are stuck in a cabin with their young baby son, Mikey.  It's getting dark outside as evening approaches.  A heavy blanket of snow is on the ground when a blizzard begins to howl... Somehow a hunter is able to make it to the front door.  Who is this stranger? Why did he go out in this blizzard?  Who are the woman and young girl that arrive soon after the hunter?  Watch as the interaction and tension build to a breaking point. What will be the outcome?

Romeo and Juliet (A portion from the Reduced Shakespeare Company’s The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (Abridged) (Directed by Kathi Mardis)
This is the complete story of Romeo and Juliet done by two actors and a narrator - in about 15 minutes.

Trifles (Directed by Beth Elam)
Join the sheriff, county attorney, and the local ladies in a "what goes around comes around" story that will challenge you with moral questions.  On what basis do we judge people?  What is our responsibility when we see those around us suffering?  Are there absolutes when it comes to justice?
Will your answers be the same after entering John Wright's life...and death?

Family Affair (Written and Directed by Patricia Cox)
A comedy about a somewhat abnormal family coping with the engagement of their oldest child to a much older man.

Check Please (Directed by Cassie Clack)
Dating can be hard, especially when your date happens to be a raging kleptomaniac, or your grandmother's bridge partner, or a mime.  Check, Please follows a series of blind dinner dates that couldn't get any worse- until they do.  Could there possibly be a light at the end of the tunnel?  This version will be cast with two couples playing all of the scenes.

The Queen in the Kitchen (Adapted and Directed by Lorrie Harris)
There is trouble in the kingdom!  The Queen hates the food that the Chef and cooks have been making, so she decides to take matters into her own hands, and makes a very interesting dish!  In the meantime, a Peasant has asked for the Princess's hand in marriage - becoming a "royal pain" to the Queen, who wants her to marry the Duke!  The twists and turns of the silly tale receive an added "ummph" from a selection of Motown song segments intermingled with the dialogue.  Think "Shrek in the Kitchen"...sort of.

Two more one acts may also be added Majority Rules and The Girl Whose Fortune Found Her - For more information go to our website http://www.newlondontheatre.org click on One Acts, and then click on the show of your interest.  There are monologues and character breakdowns on each page.
