Cody Belcher has been awarded a full baseball scholarship to Jefferson State College in Alabama. Cody is the son of Anne Frazier Belcher, graduate of South Gwinnett High School. Cody is the grandson of the late John Maurice Frazier of Snellville.

CELEBRATIONS:

Larry and Marie Talbert of Lawrenceville celebrated their 48th wedding anniversary on September 14, 2010; their wedding ceremony was held in Virginia where both were teaching school. Larry worked in the insurance business for many years and Marie was a teacher; both are now enjoying retirement years.
The 75th birthday celebration honoring Coach John Sawyer will be held on October 24th, 2010 at the Summit Chase Country Club. Coach Sawyer worked at South Gwinnett for 37 years; he coached baseball, football and girl’s basketball while teaching world history and world geography there. Coach John Sawyer also served as Athletic
Director at South and worked with Dixie Majors and Junior Olympics at the school. He and his wife now live in Eatonton, Georgia.

WINNERS:
Lauren Edmunds was crowned 2010/2011 Miss Gwinnett County at the county fair on Saturday evening September 18, 2010.
Chloe Stegeman, Dacula High School senior won a $10,000 college scholarship from Nordstrom. Chloe was one of five winners in Georgia and 40 nationwide.

PET NEWS:
Last November Lawrenceville businesswoman Susan Sikes Davis walked out to her car parked near her Clayton Street Sikes and Davis Decorating business and found a tiny black cat underneath the vehicle. Susan took the little kitty to a local vet for surgery and shots. Susan named the cat Clayton Street and took her home where she thrived and enjoyed the company of the dachshund Abe Lincoln. A mini dachshund named Belle and two other cats also live in the Davis household where the pets enjoy the good life.

GWINNETT NEWS & EVENTS:
Gwinnett County Public Schools enrollment for 2010 now exceeds 160,000 students. There are 1,819 buses taking 120,880 students, transporting students twice daily.
At the September meeting of the Lilburn City Council plans for a Sports Complex to be built on the Indian Trail/Lilburn Road were approved.

Johnson and Rex Millsaps; city council candidates are Mike Crowe VS Tony Powell and Marie Beiser VS Leon Smith. Don’s forget to vote November 2.
Dr. Dana Edwards, Grayson Elementary, was named Georgia Elementary Counselor of the Year for 2010; Kelly Flower of Five Forks Middle was named the 2010 Georgia Middle School Counselor of the Year; Karen Griffith of Berkeley Lake Elementary was named the 2010 Counselor Writer of the Year for 2010.
The 2010/2011 President of Gwinnett Retired Educators is Judith Fundis; the association meets at Hamilton Mill Restaurant at 11 A.M. and the next meeting will be the annual auction on November 19, 2010. The auction is chaired by Judy Shaklee and Paula Parris. The proceeds from the auction go toward funding scholarships for Gwinnett students and teachers and for programs benefiting the community.
The Gwinnett Historical Society meets on the third Monday of each month at 7:30 P.M. Meetings are held on the second floor meeting room at the Gwinnett Historical Courthouse in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
During the fall of 2010 dedication ceremonies will be held for eight new Gwinnett County schools.
Loganville City Planning Director Pat Chapman is leaving her job in Loganville at the end of September to move to Tennessee where her husband’s business is located.
