ATLANTA - Governor Sonny Perdue has named State Sen. David Shafer (R-Duluth) as one of his Administration Floor Leaders in the Senate. This appointment means that Sen. Shafer will carry Gov. Perdue's legislation as it works its way through the legislative process. Sen. Shafer is in his second term as a State Senator.
"I am pleased to announce the addition of David Shafer to my floor leadership team," said Governor Perdue. "Faced with tough budget restraints, Georgia needs elected representatives of vision and determination leading them in the legislature.
"I have been impressed with Senator Shafer's strategic sense. He is a strong leader and effective legislator, and I am confident that he will help my Administration advance an agenda for all Georgians," added Gov. Perdue.
"I am very honored by this appointment," Sen. Shafer said following the Governor's announcement on Monday. "Governor Perdue has faced extraordinary challenges in his first seven months on the job, and I look forward to helping him meet the challenges ahead. I share his vision for a new Georgia, and I am absolutely committed to his success as Governor."
"Senator Shafer is a thoughtful and deliberative member of the Georgia Legislature," Senate Majority Whip Mitch Seabaugh (R-Sharpsburg) added. "His knowledge of state government will be invaluable to the Governor. He is a man who knows how to get things done."

Sen. Shafer's new role also will move him from his current office in the Legislative Office Building to the Floor Leaders' office within the State Capitol. His new address is 109 State Capitol, Atlanta, Georgia 30334 and his new phone number will be 404.651.7738.
Sen. Shafer will join Sen. Dan Lee (R-LaGrange), administration floor leader, and Sen. Preston Smith (R-Rome), assistant administration floor leader, as the Governor's team in the State Senate.
