Michael Grigalunas

SNELLVILLE Michael Grigalunas, a South Gwinnett senior and Honor student has been named the recipient of the 2008 Brent Lanier Soccer Memorial Scholarship.
Michael Grigalunas is the son of Steve and Sue Grigalunas. Michael is outstanding in every way. He is described by his gifted Language Arts teacher, Donna Rothell, as a “renaissance man; he is a talented athlete, an accomplished musician, an insightful student and a compassionate man.”
Michael is a fantastic athlete having played soccer since the age of five. He has lettered in soccer all four years at South Gwinnett. Michael has had the honor of playing on many successful teams. Michael’s club team at GSA won three state cup championships. The club also won three Atlanta Cup Championships and they won the Disney Championship in Orlando, Fla. Michael was chosen for the Olympic Development Program for two years. Michael will continue his soccer and academic career at Berry College in the fall.
Michael is also an outstanding student. He has been named the Gwinnett County Scholar Athlete twice. He is a past President of the French Club and a member of the Honors Council, Beta Club and Modern Music Masters. Michael is an accomplished musician. He plays the mandolin. He also has done volunteer work at Magil Elementary.

Brent Lanier

In 2002, The Brent Lanier Memorial Soccer Scholarship was created in loving memory of Anson Brent Lanier. Brent graduated from South Gwinnett High School in 1996 as an outstanding athlete and student. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia. Brent is greatly missed by his parents, Don and Debbie Lanier, his family and many friends.
The scholarship was set up in Brent’s memory to honor him. The scholarship is given annually to a deserving South Gwinnett High School Soccer senior to assist him or her in pursuing their education. This is the seventh scholarship to be given. Michael Grigalunas will very ably represent the honor of Brent’s scholarship.
