There were 34 students in this class. 19 graduated from Grayson High School in 1954, and 14 of those started the first grade together. The Sioux Indians massacred General George Custer and his troops at the little Bighorn, Montana on June 25, 1876.

Ray and Margie McBryar
|
Sara and W.C. Corley live in Lawrenceville and were honored by the Lawrenceville First Baptist church at the Century Plus Sixty Celebration on the first weekend in May 2009.

CONGRATULATIONS:
Ray and Margie McBryar celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary on May 17, 2009; they were married on Sunday May 17, 1959 at Center Hill Baptist Church in Loganville, Georgia. Ray, a native of Hayesville, North Carolina, is the son of the late Bessie McBryar; Margie is the daughter of the late Robena and Carlton Knight. Margie was born in Gwinnett County in the Rosebud Community where she and Ray now live on the farm where she was born and reared.
Ray retired from the General Motors Lakewood Plant in Atlanta in 1992; Margie retired from the State of Georgia, Office of Secretary of State Medical Board. Ray and Margie have one son, Gary McBryar of Loganville, Georgia and two grandsons, Jeremy and Jonathan McBryar of Dacula, Georgia.
Ray and Margie celebrated with their family on a trip to Las Vegas, Nevada and dinner at the 1818 Club in Duluth, Georgia.

Joe Henry will enter law school in the fall of 2009; friends celebrated the upcoming event with Joe at a luncheon held at The Avenue Chilis on May 22, 2009.

The Reverend W.C. Corley and his wife, Sara, were honored for their years of service to Lawrenceville First Baptist Church at the Century Plus Sixty Celebration held on the weekend of May 2, 2009. Reverend Corley served the church as pastor for 25 years.

Geraldine Tilson

Geraldine Tilson was selected to receive the Moses C. Davis Award presented by the Georgia Federal Credit Union to the Georgia Volunteer of the Year. Geraldine Tilson is a retired educator and she serves on the Board of the Sugarloaf Parkway Credit Union. The award was presented at the annual convention held in Savannah on the weekend of May 8th.

Erin Butler was awarded the annual Teacher Scholarship given by the Gwinnett Retired Educators Association. Erin is currently working on a Specialist in Curriculum Degree at Piedmont College; she is employed in Special Education at Dacula Elementary School.

Erica Wright, Mill Creek High School senior was awarded the annual Student Scholarship given by the Gwinnett Retired Educators Association in 2009. Erica plans to attend Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville, Georgia and she plans to teach public school music after graduation from college.

Stephen Clack, Zach Crowe and J.P. Zinn were awarded the annual scholarships given by the Lawrenceville First Baptist Church at the Century Plus Sixty celebration dinner held on at the church May 2, 2009. The church was celebrating 160 years since its beginning which occurred on May 2, 1849. The current Senior Pastor of Lawrenceville First Baptist is Inman Houston and the Youth Minister is Bruce McGee.

Frances Harrell was named Ms. Georgia Nursing Home 2009 at the statewide pageant held in Stone Mountain on May 2. Frances Harrell is a resident of Lifecare of Lawrenceville.

Free tours of Lawrenceville are offered at 12:30 and 3 p.m. on Sunday afternoons through June. The tour trolly leaves downtown Lawrenceville across from the Crogan Street entrance to the Historic Courthouse.

Members of the Lawrenceville High School Class of 1949 who met for lunch in May 2009 were Joyce Jones Reed, Geraldine Butler Keller, Grace Britt Cain Puckett Clack, Reba Brooks Bridges and Mary Frazier Long. Joyce Reed, Mary Long and Geraldine Butler began First Grade together and the other members came into the grammar school later. All have known each other for more than sixty years and they are still speaking to each other and even planning to take a short vacation together.

Gwinnett Retired Educators who attended the annual Retired Educators Convention held in Augusta May 4-May 7th were Dianne Lockwood, Nita Hallford, Judith Fundis, Reid and Deloris Mullins, Jane Alexander, and Geraldine Tilson.

The Sons of Jubal Chorus presented a Concert of Praise and Proclamation at the Duluth First Baptist Church on May 7, 2009. Some of the Gwinnett men who sang with the choir were Dan Blankenship, Travis Boyd, Steve Brown, Keith Chandler, Craig Clesson, Ron Cole, Jon Duncan, Warren Fields, Tony Hamilton, Don Henry, Allen Hill, Trey Kennedy, Larry Mize, Philip Myers, Jr., Mark Perry, Claude Rhea, John Roberts, Lawton Roberts, Dennis Rogers, Thomas Rutledge, Doug Stevens, Charlie Todd Dan Sosebee, J.P. Zinn and Ed Lawrie. The choir consists of men from all over Georgia. The women’s choir, “The Jubalheirs,” and also sang at the Duluth concert. Some of the Gwinnett women in the Jubalheirs Chorus were Becky Akana, Dana Bailey, Louise Byrd, Wanda Calhoun, Stacy Causey, Debby Clark, Issi Clesson, Deborah Cole, Mary Davenport, Barbie Doll, Dottie Duckett, Bobbie Fields, Kathy Fowler, Belinda Gindlesperger, Marcy Hawkins, Emily Hill, Ruth Jones, Stacy Kennedy, Mary Ellen Kerrick, Vicki Mayfield, Becky Mueller, Barbara Murphy, Stacy Perdue, Barbara Roberts, Martha Shores, Sybil Sligh, Carol Taylor, Carolyn Thigpen, Susan Whitt.

The Grayson High School Class of 1954 gathered on Saturday May 16, 2009 to celebrate the 55th anniversary of their high school graduation. The event was held at the Grayson Senior Center and classmates shared memories of times passed and remembered deceased members of the class: Blondean Bennett Pahwa, Linnis Ethridge, Mary Grace Cates Johnson and Ann Cooper Starling.
Class members recognized the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Ray and Margie Knight McBryar and presented them with golden balloons to mark the event. After the ceremonies and speeches the group also enjoyed a delicious catered meal.
Classmates unable to attend the 55th reunion celebration were Sarah Sells Bowen, Charlotte Stephens Chaffin, Ann Massey Vining, Harriette Yancey Reese, and Hazel Langley Rogers.
