GRAYSON Spencer Brady, a Grayson High School senior, has been named a recipient of a Principal’s Leadership Award Scholarship, co-sponsored by the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP) and Herff Jones, Inc. One hundred national PLA winners were chosen from among more that 4, 500 applications. Each national winner will receive a $1000 college scholarship.
Keith Chaney, Principal of GHS remarks that, “The Principal’s Leadership Award is the most sought after individual award at Grayson High School. Spencer Brady is a leader in our school academically, in the area of community service, he possesses impeccable character and his leadership skills are unmatched. Spencer is the epitome of the Principal’s Leadership Award and his impact on our school will be recognized well into the future.”
Participating high school principals from across the country could nominate one senior high student to compete in this year’s program. Winners were selected on the basis of their leadership skills, participation in service organizations and clubs; achievements in the arts and sciences; employment experience; and academic record. They were also required to write an essay.
“Students nominated for the PLA scholarship not only demonstrate academic excellence, but also extraordinary performance in leadership and service to their schools and communities-traits that are more important now than ever before,” said Rocco Marano, director of student activities, NASSP. “I am always impressed by the outstanding achievements of students like Brady, and NASSP is proud to recognize him.”
In recognizing leadership in cocurricular activities as well as academic performance, the PLA scholarship recognizes the importance of a well- rounded education. Cocurricular activities are an essential part of the school curriculum.
While at Grayson High School, Spencer Brady has been President of his class from 9th-12th grade and involved in the Gwinnett Student Leadership Program (GSLT). He plans to attend the University of Georgia, majoring in Biology, and later on hopes to study medicine and become a pediatrician.
