On the Fence?

Cody Jolly’s spring 2009 brilliant portrayal of Nathan Detroit in the Grayson High School production of “ Guys and Dolls” is the reason people around me have been victimized for months by my rendition of “Good Old Reliable Nathan, Nathan ,Nathan Detroit. “ It was no surprise to those of us at Magic Moment when the talented Mr. Jolly was selected as one of the 24 GHS Senior Superlatives for Class of 2010. We did not know if he were excited or “on the fence “ about the honor.

Boss Brothers Country Store is all family all the time whether you are a Boss family member, customer or staff person. One of my favorite people there is April Scarborough whose grandson Brantley Croley took a minute to visit Santa with his new puppy.
Going from Country Casual to Gwinnett Dazzling was the 2010 Miss South pageant. I could tell you about the beautiful young women who participated but you would expect that. The male escorts held their own with their charm and debonair good looks.
At Crews Middle School in Lawrenceville, serving as a mascot is a time tested tradition. We interviewed the mascots shown: Marissa Dilisio, Claire Sammons, Laura Walker, Jenna Hansel, Matt Crummie, Matt Welch . The rules for serving as mascot seem to get only more stringent each year. Mascots “can’t hit other mascots, mess with the other teams’ cheerleaders, talk while in costume or take of their head in front of the crowd”. Also, only 8th graders can serve.
Another column favorite is Brookwood High School Wrestling Coach, Chris Cicora, entering his 5th season as Head Coach.. Coach Cicora, who recently completed a Masters degree in Leadership and Administration, is shown with Assistant Coaches James Ammons and Brian Welsch and his Region 8A Area Dual Champion Senior Wrestlers.

The dedicated members of Mill Creek High School’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes had the perfect group picture arranged until someone wondered “Where’s Waldo?” In this case “Waldo” is actuallySenior Connor Leydecker who was in the mood to lighten up Club Day, which at MCHS involves 80 plus Clubs, with his special Waldo attire. Connor is headed to Emory University after graduation to study International Business.

For the 2nd year in a row, Mill Creek Competition Cheerleading emerged as state champions.. Shown with the spoils of Victory: trophies and state champion hats is the squad who ably coached by Ashley Taube and JV Coach Haley Garner had the rare honor of back to back state victories. Cheerleading Director Brenda Petty has overseen the Award Winning Cheer program for several years. And now if we can avoid another Blizzard of 2010, other Winter sports can wind up their championships…..
