Floyd Cofer volunteered with Boy Scouts of America for many years; Floyd is an active member of the Lawrenceville Presbyterian Church.

OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE COUNTY
• The annual Peevy Reunion was held on October 24, 2010 at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church in the Five Forks Community. Those who attended the event were descendants of John Richard Peevy and Maggie Burkhart Peevy. Some of the tasty dishes enjoyed at lunch included broccoli cornbread by Rubye Moore, double crust apple pie cooked by Amy Peevy, red velvet cake by Perry Pealock and made from scratch biscuits from the kitchen of Louise Moore Justice. Also on the menu were banana pudding, blueberry cake and many other good dishes. Those who attended the 2010 reunion were Victor McKelvey, Perry Pealock, Mary and Dean Long, Bill and Lynn Long, Carl Pruitt, Pam Pealock Taylor, Benson and Louise Justice, Rubye Moore Cates, Weyman Johnson, Dixie Peevy Johnson, Charles Moore, Larry and Frankie Peevy, Jennifer Norton, Fred Moore, Ricky, Amy, Elizabeth and Rachel Peevy, Delores Holley. The 2011 Reunion will be held on October 16, 2011 at Friendship Primitive Baptist Church.
Four sisters; Margie K. McBryar, Beverly K. Cooper, Hilda K. Underwood, and Jo K. Puckett, from the Rosebud community have volunteered in so many areas that it would be hard to name all that they do.
Lois Allen volunteers with Gwinnett Parks and Recreation and is present at all park dedication events.
Monica Colley, Davy Jones and Eddie Fite served as Shiloh Elementary School volunteers with “Hands Are Not For Hitting” a puppet show designed to counteract bullying in schools.
These volunteers worked at the annual Lawrenceville First Baptist Church Community Thanksgiving Dinner where they helped prepare and serve food to special people in the community. Left to right J.W. Rubye J. Neal shows one of the special quilts on permanent display in Heritage Hall on the campus of Salem Missionary Baptist Church; the quilt shows portraits of pastors and has the history of the church. The embroidery and assembly of the quilt was by Carol Jones; Rubye collected photos and obtained materials for the project.
Jean and Lamar Holley founded an organization named Kid Stuff which served needy children all over the world. Both Holleys spend many hours with children who need extra attention in their lives.
• Lonnie and Ruth Strickland of Auburn celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in October 2010; their wedding was on October 5, 1940 at the parsonage of Dacula Methodist Church.
• Jam and Barbara Claar of Lawrenceville celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in October 2010. They were married on October 15, 1960.
• Judy Jordan Johnson was elected Mayor of Lawrenceville; elected to serve on the city council were Tony Powell and Marie Beiser. The city officers will begin their terms January 2011. Judy Jordan Johnson is the first woman to be elected Mayor of Lawrenceville; her father, Rhodes Jordan, was elected to serve as Mayor of Lawrenceville nine times.
• The Parkview High School band was awarded Grand Champion with the highest overall score of 94 at the 2010 Golden River Marching Festival held in Tallapoosa; the band had an overall score of 94. The color guard and drum majors received the highest scores in the competition.
• The Lawrenceville Lions Club is taking orders for fresh Georgia-grown pecans; they sell for $7 per bag and orders will be taken through December 15. To order call 770-995-9274.
• Briana Goolsby of A. Worley Brown Boys and Girls Club of Norcross and Dominic Maraschiello of Lawrenceville Boys and Girls Club were named Youths of the Year for Gwinnett County. Selections are based on leadership, activities with families, community and school involvement.
• Steve Kuninsky has been named Gwinnett County’s 2011 Teacher of the Year. Steve Kuninsky is a science teacher at Parkview and he is one of Gwinnett’s 11,000 educators.
• The Gwinnett County School Board has approved a policy to give its security personnel the authority to use force as a last resort when necessary to keep school campuses safe and students from misbehaving.
• The deadline for the Snap Suwanee contest is December 31. Photographers are invited to submit up to five Suwanee photographs taken during the past year and the 12 winning photos will be exhibited at City Hall during 2011. Information at www.suwanee.com
Standing Lucille Phillips has been president of the Georgia Pace Setters Travel Club in Snellville and Rubye Cates volunteers at Mount Zion Church where she teaches an adult class. Both women live in Snellville.
Dean King, now deceased, was born in Lawrenceville and lived most of his adult life in Loganville where he had a landing strip behind his house where he could keep his plane.
Jane Alexander on the left standing is the only one of the original Eastside volunteers still on duty every Monday at Eastside Hospital. Here she is with Mildred Head and Lorena Pharr, seated.
Leon Smith and Alvin Wilbanks volunteered in the kitchen to assist in the community Thanksgiving Dinner. Both men said that they had been in hot water before serving in this capacity.
